Hope House
Hope House was established by Business Professional Woman of
Columbia in 1988 to help victims of Domestic Violence.
Our current mission is to provide
shelter, advocacy and support to our clients. To engage in community
education; to heighten public awareness of issues concerning
domestic and sexual violence; to change societal attitudes and
institutions which promote and condone violence; and to build
and maintain a strong organization to deal with the problems
of domestic and sexual violence.
We have five programs within the organization:
- Shelter—provides a safe and calm
environment for individuals to heal from their experience of
domestic and sexual violence.
- Homeless
No More—provides clients with case management
in education, job and housing search to obtain self-sufficiency.
- Court
Advocate—provides accompaniment and advocacy
as clients face the judicial system. Intake specialist for
the Immigrant Legal Clinic.
- Minority and Immigrant Outreach—The Outreach
Coordinators will spend the majority of their time in the Hispanic
and African American communities promoting the services of
Hope House as well as providing education and awareness about
domestic and sexual violence. The Coordinators will also attempt
to implement a community task force to address minority issues
regarding domestic and sexual violence.
- Rape & Sexual Assault Program—provide
assistance to individuals who have recently experienced sexual
assault and individuals who are continuing the healing process
from past victimization.
Hope House offers referral services,
safety planning, information about community support organizations,
and emergency resources. We also sponsor weekly community support
group meetings for victims of domestic and sexual violence.
Currently we are staffed by eight enthusiastic
and passionate individuals whose goal is to serve victims of
domestic and sexual violence while combating domestic and sexual
violence in our community.
